Deacons

The spiritual oversight of the church is vested in the Board of Deacons which operates in concert with the congregation. The mission of the Deacons is to support the teaching and preaching of God’s Holy Word while tending to the spiritual and physical needs of the congregation through ministries of compassion, service, .and fellowship.
The Deacons’ actions and decisions are firmly rooted in the concepts expressed in RCC’s Missions, Vision, and Values statement. Through leadership by example, the Deacons are servant leaders striving to make followers of Jesus who make followers of Jesus with peace, goodness, and mercy defining all that they do.
In cooperation with the Senior Pastor, the Deacons are responsible for all aspects of the worship service. These responsibilities include preparing and organizing the sanctuary as needed for worship services; assisting the pastor in the preparation and administration of communion and baptisms; managing floral decorations, ushers, and greeters; and serving on Barnabas Teams, which are prayer teams that provide opportunities for the congregation to receive personal prayer after each worship service.

The Deacons minister to the needs of individuals and families through personal visitation and counseling. This ministry includes management of the Benevolent Fund which provides temporary financial assistance for those in distress and overseeing the Care Team ministry, which provides a Care Giver for every church member. The Deacons oversee all church committees and occasionally recognize individuals and groups making significant service contributions to the church.
The Board of Deacons is nominated by the Nominating Committee and elected by a majority vote of the congregation. Each member serves a two-year term. The Chair of the Board of Deacons represents the Board on the Church Council.
The current members are Shirley O’Leary-Chair, Cheryl Nichols-Vice Chair, Rod Watterson-Secretary, Michael Mulcahy, Jim Sheerin, Michael Badger, and Reverend Jonathan Conant.
